Hello,

So, I just want to know what do you prefer as your forum homepage? Basically it means where it brings you first when you open your forum.

An HTML page? Portal? or just the index? And why?

I use the index as my homepage. The reason why is that it to me really shows what the forum is about and what it offers.

At the moment it's my forum. But, I doubt I'll keep it that way. I always tend to send my url to the index/portal. I actually have no idea why other than, when I go to a forum that's what I prefer myself.

Well I use the index as the homepage for this forum. I'm not really a big fan of portals or HTML pages.

I use the index page as my homepage. I have never had a portal page and quite frankly I wouldn't know what to put on it that's more informative than the index page.

Index - portals suck, HTML pages drive traffic away on 'first sight' based members.

I don't normally have a home page. I try to keep it my forum, since that is the easiest way for the SEO Bots to browse everything. If you're forum is your main thing, a home page will only hurt your SEO in the long run.

It you make an HTML page using forumotions system of setting a homepage, it is on there server and readable for bots. They have no problem with it because its in the system and they know what exactly what it is. Its legitimate to bots. Its all in the coding of the server and how they have it set up. Your SEO is unaffected by it. I have an HTML page for my homepage and the BOTs are there every single day and sometimes all day long scanning all through the topic sections. I can see them there, and sometimes by clicking "who is online" it shows exactly where they are. Sometimes they are in the "lounge" or sometimes "announcements", they are all through my forum everyday. I also have my site verified and added a sitemap to both google and bing.

All I know is from my own experience and the BOTs are there every day doing there thing. The forumotion server would not have an HTML page option for a homepage if it had a negative effect for your SEO. You just have to use forumotions way of doing it which is an option in the Admin panel.

Mine is really for a "loading page" and the tut for it was posted by Leeloo. my homepage is just a splash page really, and has a "Enter" button. No one is turned away by that. Its not a complex page. Click my site icon and take a look.

Thanks Coddy, yes it is cool and it was fun making one. But I decided now to not have a loading page or an HTML Home page. I think for me it was more of a challenge than anything else to make a cool one work, and I did that and now I'm looking at it in a different light. I'm looking at it as if I was just a member completely uninterested in what the site looks like or if its cool the way you get to the index page. I think most people only care about getting to the index page to read the freakin messages and don't want to be bothered clicking an "Enter" button.

So my forum is back to the way it was, and nobody seems to mind, nobody seems to care.

I only have the Index as my homepage as well. I don't like portal so I have disabled that,as I don't think it's needed.

I don't actually have one, as I don't really need one if I'm being honest. We do have a few custom HTML pages, for example we have an affiliates page and other stuff like that.

We just didn't feel the need to have one.
