Hi!

Welcome to my second article. Today I will write about choosing forum rules. What rules should our forum have?

If you started your new forum you should choose some rules. These always give forum cleaning. But, the rules matter to what is your forum about!

If your forum is a support one, you should choose not many, and not few rules. The basic rules can be:
- Without double posting;
- Whitout posting a lot of smileys in a post (for example, not more than 5), or very big images.

So, further you can choose another forum rules. Be sure, YOU can decide if you'll allow members to advertise his forum in signature or not, (or in avatar etc...)

If your forum is about gaming, like counter strike forum, or something else, advertising another forum shouldn't be allowed, but there can be allowed (not really necessarily) to double posting, posting more smileys, etc...
Choose rules that you think are really necessary for a gaming forum. It depends of the another things on your forum.

Else if, your forum is a free-talking one - be sure, you don't need strict rules. You should see this:
http://www.forumotionhub.com/t2-forum-rules
There are simple and friendly rules. - Easy to remember! Rolling Eyes
So, as limited as possible.

Oi Sir...what do you have against smilies lol!

I agree, there has to be some order but I'm more about the laid back approach...too many rules can spoil what could be a great forum.

I'd always allow website/forum promotion, but only in the correct area or within the members profile. I personally can't stand seeing tons of signatures around a forum for advertising purposes only. Now...if it's showing off graphic skills, that's another matter Smile

Yeah. But, for example, if we post 6 smileys with 51x49 pixels, the post'll become a little unclean. Very Happy

lol! => 51x49px. Razz

(veering slightly off topic here, sorry) But I intentionally posted the LOL emote because I knew it would get my point across. Little ones are fine...but I've seen emotes that are huuuge, and yeah, I does make the post look untidy Smile

Eh, another nice article here Coddy. I agree with you mostly on those... but double posting should always be allowed in my opinion. If there's information to be added then by all means add it.

It won't hurt anyone but it can be a problem if users flood the forum with spam. lol!

Thanks for the mention in there. Razz

"Rules are made to be broken" - so true. That's why we have them. So people can break them and then I can punish them. Twisted Evil
